A Faceless Society

Title: Sarah

Size: 24in x 18in

Medium: textile and acrylic on canvas

I began creating faceless artwork many years ago. To my surprise I observed that some people were troubled that my artwork had no facial features.

As an artist my creations express my freedom of thoughts and feelings.

Being an individual that has been judged/sized up my life based on my

looks (facial features), I understand how uninformed that practice is.

Most of us have heard the expression "Don't judge a book by its cover."

But I have noticed in most societies this "expression" is nothing more than idle words.

All around the world people are judged because of their skin color, gender, social economic status, cultures, facial features, etc. (I could go on and on)

I create these pieces of artwork because I love the idea of no facial features.

Now, I wait to see how people will respond.

Has society completely controlled our minds (via social media and trends)

or can we still make up our own minds and be individuals?

When they look at my "faceless" artwork...

Will they place their own features in the empty space?

Will they feel the need to reject the artwork as incomplete?

Will they just take in the whole image and let their imagination fill in the space?

I have often said that I want my artwork to be a conversation on canvas.

So let the conversations begin.

Peace and Blessings.
